The Spear Golf Club was organized in 1968, to promote organized golf play for the enjoyment of members and guest. In the early 1970’s the club became a member of Western State Golf Association (WSGA), whose goal is to promote the organized play of golf throughout the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
Over twenty golf clubs are now members of WSGA. WSGA’s major annual event is a three-day championship tournament, held in June.

A portion of the proceeds from Spear’s Annual Tournament benefit Junior Golf programs. There are many other golfing events, both locally and out of the area, in which club members may participate.
In 1997 Spear Golf Club joined the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA). Membership in NCGA includes members-only outings at private/resort golf courses, discounted merchandise, airline discounts, hotel discounts, complimentary clinics, NCGA Golf Magazine, official handicap index, golf industry services and much more. Members also receive heavily discounted green fees at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach and Poppy Ridge in Livermore.
